April Busy Month For Grand Champions Polo Club

WELLINGTON, FL—March 30, 2013---

Grand Champions Polo Club, one of the nation’s top polo venues, is gearing up for a busy month in April.

A week after hosting the successful Buzz Welker Memorial Juniors Tournament with a record 21 teams, Grand Champions, built by Marc and Melissa Ganzi seven years ago, is putting the finishing touches on three U.S. Polo Association-sanctioned events.

Grand Champions will first host the eighth annual Women’s Championship Tournament, the only women’s polo event-of-its-kind, April 3-6.

The final and subsidiary final will be held Saturday, April 6.

Last year’s round-robin tournament attracted seven teams with players from South Africa, Jamaica, Argentina and the United States.

“Grand Champions Polo Club is excited and honored to host the WCT for the second consecutive year,” said Piaget team captain Melissa Ganzi.

In addition to the women’s event, WCT founder and top women’s player Sunny Hale, has added a junior girls tournament to be held in conjunction to help promote girls polo.

A week later, Grand Champions will host the fourth annual Gay Polo League International Tournament with preliminary games on Friday, April 12th and final and consolation final on Saturday, April

13th in a festive tailgate and fun atmosphere.

The tournament has attracted some top players around the world including France’s top woman player, Caroline Anier.

Pros Jeff Hall, Nacho Badiola, Juan Bollini and Joey Casey will compete on each of the four GPL teams: Cat Malone’s Cedar Crest Stables, Gordon W. Ross Team Re/Max, Wellington Coalition and Polo Gear/Palm Beach Rox.

At the end of April, the USPA spring circuit tournament will begin with several teams. Last year Audi won the spring 20-goal title.

Grand Champions two pro teams, Audi and Piaget, are also practicing for their U.S. Open matches on the two well-manicured fields.

The club features two regulation-size polo fields (each big enough to fit nine football fields), room in the middle for stick-and-ball practice, restrooms and plenty of room for tailgating, parking and horse trailers.
